AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, July 4 By RON GURNEY King Cougar rubber-stamped his fitness for Saturday's Marton meeting with another first-class trial at Awapuni this morning. Fast work during a quiet gallop session took place on the plough (good), with two hit-outs on the No 1 grass (heavy) after 21mm of rain overnight. King Cougar (open 1400m) used the plough and had stablemate Prince Turbo for a partner over 1000m in 1.4.1, coming the final 800m 48.9, the last 600 in 36 even. Stable apprentice Danielle Hirini is in a position to claim one kilo, thus taking the weight down to 53kg. She has ridden him in trackwork this week, but has not previously ridden him on race-day. Platinum Rapper (3yo 1200m), third under weight-for-age conditions last start, and Sanctum (mdn 1400m) were paired over 800m in 50 seconds even, the last 600 in 37.1. Sanctum will wear blinkers for the first time. Itellyouonething (r72 1550m) had race-day jockey Ronald Stam aboard over 1200m in 1.21.7, coming the final 1000m in 1.5.7, the last 600 in 39.5. She has had one run back in a new campaign, now trained by Ashley Meadows, and looks a big improver. Here Comes Trouble, resuming in the 2yo 1200m, ran 1000m in 1.10.8 and completed the final 800m in 56.3, the last 600 in 42.2. She won a Foxton trial (850m) last month with Lisa Allpress in the saddle, and the top jockey takes the ride on Saturday. On the No 1 grass, Lincoln Dreamer (mdn 1400m) and Dashing Ruby matched strides over 800m in 55.6, the last 600 in 40.9, while their stablemates Brahmarahma and Hare Bawl, possible rivals in the r65 2100m, took 57.1 and 42.8.
