AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, July 25 By RON GURNEY Before Dawn, a maiden winner at Tauherenikau over New Year, looks ready for a new campaign judging by a pleasing gallop at Awapuni this morning. Fast work took place on the plough (good), with just one gallop recorded on the heavy No 1 grass. Before Dawn used the plough and cut out 1000m in 1.5.7, coming the final 800m in 49.7, the last 600 in 36.1. The Darci Brahma mare is expected to resume shortly. A Rubick gelding and a Pierro gelding, two more from the Breslin barn, were paired over 800m in 49.7, the last 600 in 36.4. The Pierro gelding won a jump-out at Levin (850m) a few weeks ago. Shelly's Lass, another Levin jump-out winner, had Car Pie for company over 800m in 49.8, the last 600 in 36.8. Car Pie finished second (850m) at the jump-outs Top mare Heni and Saturday's Levin entrant Prince Turbo (r65 mile) were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.4.4, the last 600 in 37.2. Heni was another winner for Mike Breslin at the jump-outs (850m). Light Up and an Iffraaj gelding left 800m behind in 50.8, the last 600 in 37.5, while their stablemates Casino El Jay and Sequoia Dawn (by Redwood) came up with 51.3 and 37.8. Sequoia Dawn placed second at the Levin jump-outs. Here Comes Trouble had Rosie Myers aboard over 1000m in 1.9.1, the last 600 in 37.3, and Saturday entrant Young Squire (mdn 3yo 1200m) ran 800m in 52.6 and 38.8. On the No 1 grass, Yin Dragon (r72 1200m) and Authentic Paddy covered 1000m in 1.6.1, the last 600 in 39.9.
