AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Tuesday, September 10 By RON GURNEY Shadows Cast continued his spring preparation with a very satisfying trial at Awapuni this morning. Fast work took place on the plough (good) and on the No 1 grass (slow-heavy) with one gallop recorded against the rail on the heavy course proper. Shadows Cast used the plough and had Tim Johnson aboard when cutting out 1000m in 1.4.7, the last 600 in 36.9. The Per Incanto gelding resumed with a creditable fourth in the Tarzino Trophy (1400m) at Hastings and will return to the same venue on Saturday week for the Windsor Park Plate (1400m), also under weight-for-age conditions. Brahmarahma and Ajay Lincoln certainly lost no kudos with their own smart workout over 1000m, covering the distance together in 1.5 even, the last 600 in 36.7. Platinum Bordeaux earned plenty of admirers for the Marton meeting on Saturday (mdn 1400m) when paired with Lincoln Star over 800m in 48.8, the last 600 in 36.5, while Flying Surf and Khalfani came up with 49.8 and 36.9. Obrigado (r72 1300m) did a quiet round and a half before galloping 800m on the second circuit in 50.2, the last 600 in 36.6, and Top Ofthe Straight sprinted 600m in 37.5. Wafer, who has not raced since winning at the Grand National meeting last month (r72 1400m), ran 1000m in 1.3.7, coming the final 800m in 49.9 ,the last 600 in 37 even. She is in the r72 1300m as well. My Father's Gun (mdn 1400m) posted 1.6.5 for 1000m, the last 600 in 37.3, and he was badly hampered (850m mark) when resuming at Hastings last Saturday week. Saturday's race rival Rock Wth Choux, who won a Foxton trial (1000m) last week, was timed 1000m in 1.4.6, the last 600 in 38.4, while Salamanca and Prosecco, both in the r82 1200m, went together in 1.5.7 and 38 even. Hypatia and Casino El Jay, rivals in the r65 2200m, worked over a quiet round before speeding up on the second circuit to run 1000m in 1.7.7, the last 600 in 38.1. Their stablemate Young Squire (r65 1400m) was at a good clip early over 1000m in 1.6.7, but eased to complete his last 600 in 39.5. Race rivals Shelly's Lass and Colorado Star (r65 1400m), two more from the Breslin barn, recorded 1.7.1 and 39.2, and Just Fabulous sprinted 600m in an easy 43.3. On the No 1 grass, Mark Oulaghan's un-raced Jakkalberry four-year-old mare Berry Delightful sped over 1000m in 1.4 even, the last 600 in 37.5. She is coming to hand well. Veracious, in on Saturday (r65 2200m), had traner Deborah Parry aboard over 1000m in 1.9.1, the last 600 in 38.9, while Master Fin (r72 mile) posted 1.8.9 and 39.4. Derecho stopped the clock at 1.9.9 and 39.9. On the course proper, Hasler Lad (mdn 1400m ) and Love Potion were paired over 800m in 53.3, the last 600 in 39.5. Hasler Lad has not raced since finishing unplaced at Riccarton early last month.
