AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, September 12 By RON GURNEY Redwood maiden four-year-old Sequoia Dawn earned plenty of support for the Marton meeting when she galloped boldly at Awapuni this morning. Fast work was held on plough (good), wih just one hit-out recorded on the No 1 grass (slow). Sequoia Dawn used the plough and had stablemate Almo Costa for a partner over 1000m in 1.3 even, the last 600 in 36.9. The mare followed up a nice Foxton trial with an eye-catching third on debut at Wanganui (1360m) last month, and has trained on beautifully in readiness for the maiden 1400 on Saturday. De Gaulle (r72 mile) and Makoura Lodge worked post-to-post (1400m) and gathered speed from the 1200m to complete the final 1000m in 1.4.8, the last 600 in 37.6. De Gaulle finished third to Rosewood in an open 1500m at Awapuni three starts ago, and is not the least of chances in the final event on Saturday. New Zealand Derby place-getter Platinum Invador, whose last race-day appearance was in the AJC Derby, had stablemate Lincoln Green (by Ferlax) alongside over 800m in 50.3, the last 600 in 37.2. Here Comes Trouble, a last-start third at Woodville last month, and a Savabeel filly covered 800m in 53 even, sprinting home the last 600 in 37.5. Heni and Jessiegee matched strides over 1000m in 1.6.8, the last 600 in 38.4, while their stablemates Hypatia and Casino El Jay, after completing a quiet round, galloped 1000m in 1.8 even and 39.6. They are rivals in the r65 2200 on Saturday. Young Squire (r65 1400m), who galloped 1000m on Tuesday, ran 800m in 52.7, the last 600 in 39.4, and un-raced Rip Van Winkle filly Queen Kamada, a good trial performer, took 54 even and 39.3. Fully Charged was timed 800m in 55 even, the last 600 in 39.2, and her stablemate Our Legacy ran 1000m in 1.10.1,the last 600 in 39.5. My Father's Gun, badly checked at Hastings last start, cruised over 800m in 54.8, the last 600 in 40.3. He galloped strongly on Tuesday, and tackles the maiden 1400 at Marton. Un-raced three-year-old filly Colyton Sky (by Shamoline Warrior) was not after time over 800m in 55 even, the last 600 in 41.2. She is with Roydon Bergerson. An un-raced El Hermano four-year-old trained by Deborah Parry, ended 800m with 600 in 42.6. He placed third at last week's Foxton trials. Marton race rivals Shelly's Lass and Colorado Star (r65 1400m) were not after time over 1000m in 1.15.3, the last 600 in 43.4.
