AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Tuesday, October 15 By RON GURNEY Waipukurau entrant Antipodes worked impressively with his more illustrious stablemate Duplicity at Awapuni this morning. Fast work took place on the No 1 grass (good) and on the plough (good). Antipodes and Duplicity used the No 1 grass and, after cantering up over a round (1400m), they increased the tempo on the second circuit to complete 1000m in 1.3.3, the last 600 in 35.8. Antipodes has been a gradual improver this time in, and went down narrowly at Waverley (2200m) last start. She tackles the maiden 2100m on Thursday. Duplicity continues his campaign toward the New Zealand Cup, in which he finished second last year, and has been entered for the r82 2100m at Otaki on Sunday. . Sweepstake (open 1200m) and Colorado Star were paired over 800m in 48.9, the last 600 in 36.4, while Waipukurau runner Colyton Sky (mdn 1200m) and a Zed filly stablemate recorded 52 even and 38.8. On the plough, Lydia Pickford-trained maiden Clownin Around (by Sacred Falls) caught the eye with 1000m in 1.3.9, the last 600 in 35.7, and his race-day form could improve sharply. Desert Magic, bound for Otaki (r65 1200m), breezed over 800m in 48.4, the last 600 in 35.5, while Akela Belle (r65 f&m 1600m) and Keep It Savvy (r65 2100m) went together in 48.2 and 36.1. Floral Art and Den Bosch covered 1000m in 1.1.8, the last 600 in 36.1, followed soon after by probable Otaki rivals Yin Dragon and Platinum Volos (r72 1400m), who matched strides over 800m in 48.3, the last 600 in 36.2. Original Gangster, now with Peter Didham, ran 1000m in 1.6.4, the last 600 in 37.3, and Waipukurau entrant Kotahi (r65 1200m) had Benny Lincoln alongside over 800m, the last 600 in 38.8. Love Potion (mdn 1350m) and Jenever (mdn f&m 1200m), two more for Waipukurau on Thursday, ended with 600m in 37.8, and Excelleration, who has not raced since June, ran 800m in 50.9, the last 600 in 38.9. An un-raced son of Falkirk trained by Matthew Eales ran 800m in 53.5, the last 600 in 39.7, while a Love Conquers All gelding trained by Lydia Pickford recorded 54.8 and 39.4.
