AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, October 24 By RON GURNEY Mike Breslin-trained lower grade stayers Casino El Jay and Hypatia were in fine form at Awapuni this morning as they completed final gallops for Trentham on Saturday. Fast work was held on the No 1 grass (dead-slow) and on the plough (good). Casino El Jay (r82 2400m) and Hypatia (r65 2200m) used the No 1 grass and were locked together over 1000m in 1.5.2, coming the final 800m in 50.2, the last 600 in 38.1. Casino El Jay was outstanding in his success at Awapuni two starts ago and just failed to nab Beauty Star at Hastings last time out, both races over 2200 metres. Hypatia is overdue to pay a dividend. Master Fin, a race rival for Casino El Jay, and Don't Know Jakk, who clashes with Hypatia, earned admirers of their own with 1000m in 1.8 even, the final 800m in 51.7, the last 600 in 38.4. Lovetokeephim, another down for the r65 2200m, had owner-trainer Kim Clapperton aboard over 1000m in 1.8.4 and came his final 800m in 52.4, the last 600 in 38.9. He won over 2200 metres on a heavy 11 at Trentham in June. Time honours on the No 1 grass went to Prince Turbo and He's Done A Runner, who sped over 800m in 50.4, the last 600 in 37.8. Thompson Handicap prospect Jessiegee had Heni for a partner over 800m in 51.9, the last 600 in 39.1, and their stablemate Sweepstake (r82 1200m) went alone in 52.7 and 39.7. Amorata, resuming in the r72 mile, warmed up from the 1200m to be timed 1000m in 1.8.1, the last 600 in 40.8, and King Cougar (r82 1200m), blinkers off on Saturday, was let off with 800m in 56.9, the last 600 in 41.7. On the plough, Lincoln Hills and Lincoln's Gal were on terms throughout 800m in 48.7, the last 600 in 36.1, and Authentic Charm went alone in 51.3 and 37.5. Kellys Inspiration and Lincoln Fury covered 800m in 51.2, the last 600 in 38.5, and un-raced four-year-old mare Jakkabella, trained by Mark Oulaghan, took 53.4 and 39.7. A Pins three-year-old with Talia Yeates sprinted 600m in 39.6. Trentham candidates Just Fabulous (r65 1400m) and Hank Moody (r72 mile) matched strides over 1000m in 1.8.9, the last 600 in 40.9, and Floral Art (r65 2200m) did a quiet round and a half before sprinting 600m in 40.3. My Father's Gun (r65 1400m) was given a quiet 800m in 56.8, the last 600 in 41.1, and his stablemate Belle Plaisir (3yo 1200m) posted 58 even and 41.7. A Fabulous gelding, also trained by Lucy Tanner, sprinted 600m in 42.3.
