AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Tuesday, October 29 By RON GURNEY Heni, Salamanca, Shadows Cast and Duplicity, all on the course proper, and Sentimental Miss and Lincoln Raider on the plough highlighted some impressive gallops at Awapuni this morning. Fast work was held on the course proper (slow-heavy), on the No 1 grass (slow) and on the plough (good). Heni and Salamanca, both heading to the open 1400m at Feilding on Saturday, used the course proper and covered 1000m in 1.5.9, sprinting home hard the last 600 in 35.8. They have won 21 races between them, but are both overdue a winning turn. Myrtle (r72 1400m), working on her own, produced her best track form with a very smart 1000m. She had Rebecca Goldsbury aboard over 1000m 1.10.2, coming the final 800m in 50.5, the last 600 in 35.8 as well. Shadows Cast (open 1400m) and Duplicity (Feilding Cup) were paired over a bold 1000m in 1.4.1 and completed the final 800m in a nice 48.6, the last 600 in 36.2. It was excellent work. Dark Princess (open 1400m) and dual nominee De Gaulle were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.6.9, clocking 49.9 for the final 800m, the last 600 in 36.6. Dark Princess was withdrawn from last Saturday's Thompson Hcp, but is definitely at the top of her game. On the No 1 grass, Prosecco (r72 1400m) and Prince Turbo (r65 1400m) reeled off 1000m in 1.4 even, the last 600 in 37.3, and Friday's Taranaki runner Antipodes (mdn 2000m) breezed over the same distance in 1.10.3 and 37.4. Antipodes has not had any luck with abandonments at Waipukurau and Woodville over the past few weeks. Showshanelle and a Falkirk gelding, both trained by Matthew Eales, did solid work over 800m in 49.6, the last 600 in 37.1, and their stablemate Empower went alone in 50.4 and 37.7. Last-start Otaki winner Desert Magic was timed 800m in 52.3, running home nicely the last 600 in 37.7, while his stablemates Khalfani, in at Feilding (mdn 1200m), and Flying Surf ended with 600m in 37.6. Amorata was one of the first to use the No 1 grass and caught the eye with 1000m in 1.6.3, coming the final 800m in 51.8, the last 600 in 38.7. Her stablemates Colyton Sky (mdn 1200m) and Just Fabulous (r65 1400m) stayed together over 800m in 51.5, the last 600 in 38.6, and Obrigado (r72 2200m) did a quiet round and a half before running home the last 600 in 39.2. Rock With Choux (r65 mile) warmed up from the 1200m mark to be timed from the 1000m mark in 1.8.3, the last 600 in 39.7. On the plough, Lincoln Raider (r72 1400m) and Sentimental Miss raised a few eyebrows with their 1000m in a terrific 61 seconds even, coming the final 800m in 47.4, easing slightly over the last 600 in 36 even. Ozil, who has not raced since January, sprinted 600m in 36.9, while Platinum Command and Sir Nate, both in Saturday's r82 mile, went 1000m together in 1.3.2, the last 600 in 37.1. Young Squire and stablemate Almo Costa, both in the r65 mile, ran 1000m in 1.5.5, the last 600 in 37.9, and Eastern Warrior sprinted 600m in 39.5. Got The Call ended with 39.8. An Alamosa gelding trained by Matthew Eales was kept to 42.6.
