AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, October 31 By RON GURNEY Lower grade sprinter Arturo could keep a fresh-up record in tact at the Feilding meeting on Saturday, judging by his final gallop at Awapuni this morning. Fast work took place on the No 1 grass (dead-slow) and on the plough (good). Arturo (r65 1200m) used the No 1 grass and had former Matamata mare Ritzy Sparkle (by Pins) for a partner over a slick 1000m in 62 even, coming the final 800m in 47.8, the last 600 in 36.7. After a few solid trial placings last spring, Arturo (by Per Incanto) won on debut at Wanganui in February (1200m), but finished last of eight at Awapuni next time out. He has not raced since. His stablemates Colyton Sky (mdn 1200m No 2) and Just Fabulous (r65 1400m) were paired over 1000m in 63.9, the last 600 in 37.6. Colyton Sky is poised to go a big race on debut, while Just Fabulous has taken great benefit from a resuming run at Hawera three weeks ago. Heni (open 1400m), who has been served by Alamosa, and her younger stablemate Khalfani (mdn 1200m No 2) were on terms throughout 800m in 53.7, the last 600 in 38. Heni will carry her lightest weight in years in the Redcraze Bowl with stable apprentice Danielle Hirini (4 wins) in the saddle. Khalfani followed up two solid Foxton trial placings last month with an improver's run at Waverley a month ago. She will appreciate the better track conditions on Saturday. A Darci Brahma filly trained by Jeff Lynds ran an easy 800m in 56.8, the last 600 in 41.4, and an Echoes Of Heaven filly from the same stable clocked 57 even and 41.3. On the plough, Feilding Cup prospect Sentimental Miss and Johnny Lincoln (r72 2200m) were impressive matching strides over 800m in 48.6, the last 600 in 36.3. It could be time for Sentimental Miss to redeem herself. Their stablemtes Lincoln's Gal and Almo Street covered 800m in 48.8, the last 600 in 36.4, and Platinum Command (r82 mile), who is in foal, went alone in 49 even and 36.5. She will race without blinkers on Saturday. Prince Turbo (r65 1400m) and He's Done A Runner were timed 800m in 49.9, the last 600 in 36.7, while My Calendar Girl and a Pins three-year-old gelding stablemate took 50.8 and 36.8. The Pins gelding won a Levin jump-out a few weeks ago. Original Gangster, now with Peter Didham, came to the finish of 1000m in 1.3.9, the last 600 in 37.2, while Divine Wine and a Deep Field maiden ended with 37.3. Un-raced gelding Jessie's Rock (by Road To Rock) and an Alamosa-Cold Shoulder gelding, both four-year-olds with Peter Didham, ran 800m in 50.3, the last 600 in 37.4. Excelleration, who has not raced since June, worked alone over 800m in 52.4, the last 600 in 37.8, while Chartwell and Platinum Road ended with 600m in 38.4. De Gaulle, in at Feilding (r82 mile), breezed over 1000m in 1.6.2, the last 600 in 38.3, just a few minutes after Queen Kamada (mdn 1200m No 2) and un-raced three-year-old filly La Donna (by Per Incanto) went together in 1.9.9 and 38.9. Platinum Spirit and un-raced four-year-old mare Cyndy Wink (by Rip Van Winkle) cut out a nice 800m in 50 seconds even, the last 600 in 38.1. Kellys Inspiration had Benny Lincoln alongside throughout 800m in 51.1, the last 600 in 38.2, while their stablemates Lincoln Fury and Lincoln Hanover recorded 51.2 and 38.3. Higher Power, who has not raced since the autumn, ran an even 800m in 54.2, the last 600 in 39.8, and stablemate Rusty In Rongotea, second at the Levin jump-outs recently, posted 54.5 and 39.2. Peter Didham-trained Soul Vacation (by Alamosa), unplaced in his only race to date, ended with 600m in 39 even, and a Teofilo colt from the same stable took 39.6. Dark Princess, in the Redcraze Bowl at Feilding (1400m), was not after time over 1000m in 1.10.8, the last 600 in 40 even. Rock With Choux (r65 mile) came up with 1.12.3 and 41.3, and Du'blues (r65 1200m) 1.12.8 and 41.6.
