AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, December 12 By RON GURNEY Last-start winner Keep It Savvy hinted back-to-back victories was on the cards on Saturday after a bold trial at Awapuni this morning. All fast work was on the plough (good), where jockey Robert Hannam had Keep It Savvy pinging along on his own over 1000m in 1.6.5, coming the final 800m in 50.1, the last 600 in 37.4. Two starts ago, Keep It Savvy pulled up on the journey, and a post-race examination revealed the horse had suffered an atrial fibrillation. None the worse for wear, he came out three and a half weeks later and scored over 1550 metres on his home track at Awapuni. Keep It Savvy will now contest the r72 1500m back at Manawatu this Saturday, with Robert Hannam taking over from Kozzi Asano. He will carry 2kg more than last time. Lincoln Fury and Almo Street were paired over 800m in 49.7, the last 600 in 37 seconds even, while Lydia Pickford-trained maidens Infra Red (un-raced) and Take Control took 50.3 and 37.1. Manawatu entrants Beefeater (open 1200m) and Just Fabulous (r65 mile) were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.8.3 and came the final 800m in 53.5, sprinting the last 600 in 38.8. Beefeater was a dual acceptor, but will run in the open 1200m with apprentice Mereana Hudson aboard, thus claiming 3kg to 57kg. Deep Blue (r65 mile) had trainer Gene Andrew in the saddle over 800m in 52.6, the last 600 in 38.3, and stablemate So It Was (Andrew), in the r65 2200m, recorded 52.8 and 38.4. Prince Turbo (r65 2200m) did a quiet round before picking up un-raced stablemate Parisian Poppy (by Vespa) on the second circuit to complete 800m in 53.4, the last 600 in 38.4. An Echoes Of Heaven gelding trained by Jeff Lynds ran 800m in 54.2, the last 600 in 39.4, and a Nadeem mare with Mark Oulaghan ended with 600m in 39.1. Eulogy Stakes runner Queen Kamada was kept to 1000m in 1.9.1, the last 600 in 40 seconds even, while race rival Belle Plaisir clocked 1.10 even and 40.4. Un-raced Atlante three-year-old filly Carlingford Bay, trained by Mark Oulaghan, covered 1000m in 1.10.4, the last 600 in 40.7. Rock With Choux, in at Manawatu (r65 2200m), was not after time over 1000m in 1.10.2, the last 600 in 41.3, while Arturo and a Sweet Orange gelding stablemate sprinted 600m in 42.7.
