AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Tuesday, December 17 By RON GURNEY Mike Breslin-trained Heni and Prosecco have been known to turn up the heat together in training previously, and it was no exception at Awapuni this morning. Fast work took place on the middle of the course proper (dead) and on the plough (good) as horses prepared for either Otaki on Friday or Manawatu on Saturday. Heni (Manawatu Challenge Stakes) and Prosecco (r82 mile) used the course proper and had eyebrows raised after 1000m in 1.4.3, the last 600 in 34.8, which was impressive work. Not to be denied any plaudits, fellow trainer Roydon Bergerson then sent out a lower grade pairing of Arturo (r72 1200m) and Ritzy Sparkle (r65 1400m), who reeled off 800m in 48.5, the last 600 in 34.8 as well. Shadows Cast (Challenge Stakes), working on his own, soon followed, covering 1000m in 1.5.6, the last 600 in 35.3, while Prince Turbo and Hypatia, both in the r65 2300m, went together in 1.8 even, the last 600 in 35.4. Du'blues and a Thewayyouare-Ha'penny maiden warmed up from the 1000m (1.11) to sprint home the last 600 in 36 even, while On A Wing beat Rusty In Rongotea in 1.7 and 37.8. The latter's stablemates Dark Princess (Challenge Stakes) and De Gaulle (r82 mile) were paired over 1000m in 1.8.2, the last 600 in 37.1, and Hank Moody went alone in 1.10.3 and 37.8. Last-start Waipukurau maiden winner Durham Lad (3yo 1400m) covered 1000m in 1.10.7, the last 600 in 37.7, while Otaki runners Lincoln Fury and Brahmarahma (r65 mile) posted 1.11.4 and 37.2. Jenever, in at Otaki, and Kellys Inspiration (Manawatu), were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.11.7, the last 600 in 37.8. On the plough, Manawatu Cup prospect Platinum Invador had Rex Royale (r65 2300m) for a partner over 1000m in 1.3.2, the last 600 in 36.8. Saltbush Bill, in agt Otaki, was timed 1000m in 1.5.3, the last 600 in 36.5, while Secret Allure (Manawatu Challenge Stakes) and Lincoln Raider (r82 mile) were explosive over 800m in 47.2, the last 600 in 36.1. Alamosa four-year-old gelding Mick, who debuts at Otaki (mdn 1400m), covered 800m in 50.1, the last 600 in 36.2. He is a brother to On The Rocks. Semper Magico, who has been luckless in recent races, cut out 800m in 50.9, the last 600 in 36 even. He gets another good chance to break through on Friday. Red Rufus and Den Bosch matched strides over 1000m in 1.3.4, the last 600 in 37.1, and Obrigado was almost the same on his own in 1.3.4 and 37.5. Eastern Warrior did nice work over 1000m in 1.5.5, the last 600 in 38 even, and un-raced mare Jakkabella, trained by Mark Oulaghan did a round and a half before galloping 1000m in 1.7.4 and 39.6. Rox, in at Otaki, left 800m behind in 56.1, the last 600 in 40.8, and Carlingford Bay (by Atlante), on debut this Friday, was kept to 1000m in 1.13 and 41.4.
