AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Tuesday, December 31 BY RON GURNEY Lisa Latta-trained maidens Platinum Touch, Ajay Lincoln, Mini Maxine and Love Potion all galloped in bold fashion at Awapuni this morning. Fast work took place on the plough, where Platinum Touch and Ajay Lincoln were paired over 1000m in a very respectable 1.4.6, the last 600 in 36.2. Apart from a debut third this time last year, Platinum Touch (by Proisir) has been disappointing on race-day, especially with blinkers on last start in November. Since then, she has finished second in a Waverley trial (1400m) and first in a Foxton one (1600m). She goes straight into a middle-distance maiden on Thursday, with the blinkers coming off. Mini Maxine and Love Potion, two more heading to Tauherenikau, were locked together over 800m in 48.7, the last 600 in 36.1. Mini Maxine is a four-year-old by Thewayyouare, down to debut on Thursday (mdn 1000m) with no prominent trial form to speak of. However, this morning's workout told us a lot more. Meanwhile, Love Potion (mdn mile) ran her best race in six race-day starts when third at Waipukurau three weeks ago, and has trained on well. Elusive Joule (by Power), unplaced on debut before Christmas, and in-form filly Kellys Inspiration (Marton), covered 800m in 49.5, the last 600 in 36.9, while Benny Lincoln, unplaced on debut at Waipukurau, and Almo Street were almost identical with 49.6 and 36.9. Kapinos, a first-day winner at Manawatu, worked alone over 800m in 50.2, the last 600 in 36.6, and un-raced Alamosa four-year-old Mick, a brother to On The Rocks, sprinted 600m only in 36.6. He debuts at Tauherenikau. Don't Know Jakk and stablemate Jakkabella were timed 1000m in a very nice 1.3.3, the last 600 in 37.4, while Lincoln Melody and Tauherenikau runner Maidstone Park came up with 1.4.4 and 37 even. Red River Rock, a second-day winner at Manawatu, and Chartwell matched strides over 1000m in 1.5 even, the last 600 in 37.3, and Hank Moody went 1200m in 1.18.7 and 37.7. He will race in blinkers at Tauherenikau. Keep It Savvy had likely Marton race rival Lincoln Raider for a partner over 800m in 48.9, the last 600 in 37.2, while Voralto (by Sacred Falls), who debuts on Thursday, and un-raced Vespa filly Parisian Poppy posted 51.9 and 37.9. They are with Mike Breslin. Desert Magic, a big chance at Tauherenikau, warmed up from the 800m (53) to sprint home in 37.6. Original Gangster dashed 600m in 37.9, as did an Echoes Of Heaven gelding trained by Jeff Lynds. Shez Gonna Getcha was at a good clip from the 800m in 50.4, the last 600 in 38.2, and Master Lincoln, in on Thursday, took 52.2 and 38.8. Den Bosch sprinted 600m in 38.5, and Piccolo Toro ended with 38.9. Marton runner Belle Plaisir, trained by Lucy Tanner, and Red Red Robin, (David Hayes) went fast early over 1000m 1.3.5, but eased to complete the last 600 in 39 even. Un-raced Pierro gelding Piri Piri Pete and an Alamosa filly, both trained by Mike Breslin, ran 1000m in 1.6.1, the last 600 in 39 even. Blue On Black and Queen Kamada, off to Marton, were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.8.7, the last 600 in 39.7, while Colyton Sky (blinkers on at Tauherenikau) and Ritzy Sparkle clocked 1.9.8 and 39 even. Sir Nate had Robert Hannam aboard over 800m in 52.4, the last 600 in 39.1, and Tauherenikau runner Authentic Charm posted 52.9 and 39.5. Balalaika, an un-raced Showcasing two-year-old filly trained by Matthew Eales, did 800m in 52.9, the last 600 in 39.2, while a Super One gelding and un-raced Platinum Rain (by Kermadec) sprinted 600m in 39.4. They are with Lisa Latta. Busybeingfamous, trained by Mark Oulaghan, sprinted 600m in 40.7, and Eastern Warrior was kept to 1000m in 1.7.1 and 41.8 after a quiet round of pacework. Anne Herbert-trained un-raced two-year-old filly Vespa's Diva, second at the Foxton trials three weeks ago, was given a quiet 600m in 43.4, and Ozil ended 1000m (1.14.5) with 600m in 44.4.
