AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Tuesday, January 28 By RON GURNEY Red Rufus and stablemate Jessie's Rock were the star trialists during a quiet gallop session at Awapuni this morning. All fast work was on the plough (good), where Red Rufus and Jessie's Rock, both trained by Peter Didham, skipped over 1000m in 1.4.9, the last 600 in 36.8. Red Rufus cleared maidens at New Plymouth lst start (160m) at his fourth attempt on race-day, when wearing blinkers for the first time. He has trained on well, and will return to New Plymouth this Saturday for a r65 2000m. Jessie's Rock has had two races for a sixth and a fifth and is steadily improving. Seven-year-old mare Shez Gonna Getcha, who has not raced for nearly two years, ran 1000m in 1.5.9, the last 600 in 36.9. She is trained by David Hayes. Maiden three-year-old gelding Wotaripper (by Rip Van Winkle), who won a Foxton trial (1000m) impressively two weeks ago for trainer Lisa Latta, was timed 1000m in 1.6.9, the last 600 in 37.2. Mick (by Alamosa), unplaced in two race-day starts so far, ran 800m in 53.6, the last 600 in 37.9, while Red Red Robin went 1000m in 1.7.6, the last 600 in 38.7. Queen Kamada and Blue On Black were paired over 1200m in 1.18.3, coming the final 800m in 51.2, the last 600 in 38.5. Queen Kamada was fifth in the Desert Gold Stakes last start, while Blue On Black was unlucky in the r82 mile the same day. They head to New Plymouth on Saturday for the Oaks Prelude and Taranaki Cup respectively, both over 1800 metres. A Super One gelding and a Dalghar filly, both trained by Lisa Latta, covered 800m in 54.2, the last 600 in 39.1, and Excelleration sprinted 600m in 39.5. A Free Eagle-Daft colt trained by Peter Didham ran 600m in 40 seconds even, and his stablemate Kusuda went 800m in an easy 57.5, the last 600 in 41.5. Kusuda was unplaced on debut in September (heavy), and has not raced since.
