AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, January 30 By RON GURNEY Red Rufus rubber-stamped his fitness for New Plymouth on Saturday when he worked in great style again at Awapuni this morning. All fast work during another quiet gallop session was on the plough (good), where Red Rufus (r65 2000m) again had stablemate Jessie's Rock for a partner over 800m in 50.3, the last 600 in 36.3. Red Rufus won a maiden mile at New Plymouth between Christmas and New Year and returns there this weekend for a step up in distance. Robert Hannam is booked to ride. Dedoje, second on debut at Otaki last week, and He's Done A Runner were paired over 800m in 50.7, the last 600 in 36.9, while a Dissident gelding and a Real Impact filly, both trained by Lisa Latta, took 51.3 and 37.6. Heni's full sister Princess Ani, who won at Otaki last week, and Voralto covered 1000m in 1.9.8, the last 600 in 38.1. Voralto (by Sacred Falls) was unplaced when resuming at Otaki. Sweepstake and Flying Surf were timed 1200m in 1.12.5, the last 600 in 39.4, while a Per Incanto filly and a Niagara filly, both trained by Lisa Latta, ran 800m in 56.1 and 39.9. Taranaki Cup entrant Beefeater, who won the race two years ago, worked on his own over an easy 1000m in 1.10.5, coming the final 800m in 54.6, the last 600 in 40.5. Un-raced Nadeem four-year-old mare Princess Priscilla did a quiet round before increasing the tempo on the second circuit to run 1000m in 1.13 even, the last 600 in 40.8. She dead-heated for first in a Foxton trial (1300m) two weeks ago for trainer Mark Oulaghan.
