Its Wellington Cup day this weekend and Awapuni has good numbers entered:
YEMANYA (Trainer Royden Bergerson) she has been very good in her last two outings for second. The first of those was at Awapuni on Boxing Day when being run down late by a very handy mare in Bronsteel. Last time out she was beaten in the last stride by the promising Maltese Ruby who had a good pull in the weights on her. In the fourth of the day she meets a very even line up and has Sarah MacNab claiming the two kilos again bringing her weight down to 55.5kg
SHADOWS CAST (Trainer Mark Oulaghan) he is a real up and comer and faces his biggest test tomorrow in the Thorndon Mile. Three starts back he won the Red Craze Bowl with ease at Awapuni. He then ventured to Riccarton and dead heated when winning the Couplands Mile at Group 2 level. He was then freshened up and won very well at Awapuni over 1400m. He has drawn well at six and his work has been first class this week. Alysha Collett will ride again.
DIJON BLEU (Trainer Lisa Latta) won the Listed Fillies race at Wanganui before winning the Soliloquy at Ellerslie. She then stepped up to the 1600m in the One Thousand Guineas and was a very gallant second behind Hasahalo. She was then freshened before another top effort for second in the Eulogy Stakes behind Savvy Coup. She has drawn perfectly at barrier three in the Desert Gold Stakes and meets some very promising types however none have been tested in black type compnay like her. Leith Innes will ride again.
