Town Cryer Hones In On First Group 1
By RON GURNEY | March 28, 2024

Town Cryer is on song for her first Group 1 medal after another very satisfactory trial at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work during a light gallop session was on the synthetic track or on the plough (good).

Town Cryer and Tavita Miss worked together right-handed on Tuesday, but went left-handed this morning, being timed 1000m in 1.6.1, the last 600 in 38.7.

Town Cryer finished second in the Rangitoto Classic (1500m) at Ellerslie last start and is well and truly ready to go one better at the same venue in Saturday's NZ Breeders' Stakes (1600m).

Tavita Miss stepped up to 1600 metres for the first time at Tauherenikau last start and finished second to Miyazawa.

Like Town Cryer, she is looking to go one better at Otaki (mdn mile) on Easter Monday.

Their stablemates Bradman and Man Express were paired over 1000m in 1.9.1, the last 600 in 40.4, while Charlotte's Way and Vitaci, two more from the Bergerson barn, clocked 1.11.5 and 40.5.

Charlotte's Way was second first up at Wanganui last month and tackles the r75 1400m on Easter Monday, while Vitaci resumes in the maiden 2yo 1200m.

French Doll and a War Decree gelding, both trained by Mike Breslin, were not chasing the clock over 800m in 57.7, the last 600 in 40.1.

On the plough, maiden four-year-old Rocking Light, who has been freshened, ran a smart 1000m in 1.4.4, the last 600 in 37.3.

Platinum Cruiser and unraced two-year-old colt Port Chalmer (by Charm Spirit) ran 800m in 56.1, the last 600 in 39.4, and their stablemate Final Chapter went alone in 57.1 and 41.9.
