Form analysis and tips:
Race 1 Harrisons Carpets & Curtains Premier (Spec Con 1400m) Jasd created a huge impression when winning on debut at Taupo. There is no reason he cannot double up here as the step up to 1400m will suit. Platinum Wild Card was run down late on debut when second at Whanganui. He will have improved with that experience while Hartley won well when resuming at Otaki in December over 1300m. Secret Squirrel ran some good races in the Spring at Hastings in these Special Conditions Maidens and was better when runner up at Taranaki last time 7 - 10 - 6 - 4
Race 2 Aurora Australis Premier (Rating 65 1000m) Silver Cloud was a very good winner when resuming at Tauranga before running a big race for second on the first day in a Special Conditions Maiden over this distance. She will get the last run at them from barrier one. Morweka was good when resuming at Ruakaka and running second over the 1200m. He too has drawn well. Dig It Up had been freshened since doing it all wrong last time at Ruakaka. His previous form was good. Awatane stepped up to the mile last time but failed. His previous form was sound and he should be running home well over the 1000m. 5 - 4 - 6 - 3
Race 3 Printlink 3YO Premier (3YO SW&P 1200m) - Gift Of Power has won seven from ten and is undefeated at Trentham. She wil be the one to beat in this. I Am Queen created a good impression on debut at Taupo when winning by four and a quarter lengths. The step up in distance will not worry. Divine Power was good enough to beat the older horses over 1200m at Awapuni before running third in the G3 Wellington Stakes. She has been freshened since here sixth in the Eulogy Stakes. I Got You was placed in the Lsited 1200m at Hastings in the Spring before spelling after failing in the Guineas. He won a recent trial to show he is ready to run a big race here. 1 - 6 - 4 - 2
Race 4 Wellington Seamarket Premier (Rating 65 1400m) - Shadows has been freshened since disappointing at Ellerslie. Go back to his win at Waikato fresh up for the best guide to his form. Yemanya has run two solid races for second recently and is capable of going one better in this. Princess Belle was a winner at this carnival last year and while her three runs back only read fair she is better than that and could represent some value. Tellyawhat was very godo when running thrid at Otaki and was close up when sixth at Awapuni. He will appreciate the 1400m. 3 - 4 - 10 - 8
Race 5 Harcourts Thorndon Mile (Opn SW&P 1600m) a great field with a number of chances. Shadows Cast has gone from strength to strength in this campaign. He dead heated to win the Couplands Mile before freshening up and winning impressively at Awapuni. From barrier six he should get a good run. Love Affair had won four of six and faces her biggest test here. She has an awkward barrier of ten to overcome but should be right in the finish. Hiflyer disappointed when up to 2000m at Ellerslie. Back to the 1600m and drawn nicely at three look for him to be powering home while Splurge impressed winning the Manawatu Challenge Stales and is capable of taking this out. Cases could also be made for Dolcetto, Saville Row, Amarula, Ruud Not Too and Savvy Dreams. 3 - 11 - 1 - 2
Race 6 Shoe Clinic Premier (Rating 65 1600m) Flamingo was good when thrid here in December over the 1600m at Rating 75 level. She disappointed at Awapuni but is back a Rating Band here. Hoist has run three top races this time in. He has an awkward draw to overcome but his last run at Awapuni for fourth was full of merit. Koko Belle has rattled home for third in here last two runs and the step up to 1600m will suit while Outsanding was hitting the line well again when eighth on the first day and wil also apprecaite the extra distance. 8 - 3 - 15 - 10
Race 7 JR & N Berkett Telegraph (Opn SW&P 1200m) an outstanding field and the race of the Carnival. Where do you start. Kawi has won seven Group 1 and is chasing a rare feat of having won those G1 over 1200m through to 2000m. He has the blinkers go on here and is capable of running a very bold 1200m in a fresh state. His win the Capatin Cook showed how good he was when he sat three wide and still won. Starvoia is a very good mare up from the South. The Parson's have won this race before and knows what you need to win this race. She has drawn well at four and has impressed in her three wins back this time. Chris Johnson had the pick of about four rides in this race and has stuck with her. Start Wondering was runner up in this last year and his run at Ellerslie on a track that did not suit for foruthin the Railway was very good. He just needs a good track to show his best form. Volpe Veloce has won ten of thirteen and won that Railway. She goes up 3kg for that win but has drawn well at three. The chances do not stop there with the likes of Signify, Packing Eagle, Chambord, Ferrando, Sacred Star, Miss Wilson, Heroci Valour, Carnival and Volks Lightning all capable of winnign it. 1 - 16 - 2 - 5
Race 8 Tui - Metroclad-Terracade Desert Gold Stakes (3YOF 1600m) Dijon Bleu has been very good as a 3YO. She won the Listed race at Wanganui and Ellerslie before running second in the Group One One Thousand Guineas. She was very brave when running second to Savvy Coup in the Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni last time. Rondinella created a massive impression when breaking maidens at Tauranga. Chill was also very good when scoring her maiden win at Taupo. Insight was another to catch the eye when scoring at Tauranga last time. These are all up and comers who can test Dijon Bleu. 1 - 13 - 8 - 10
Race 9 Wallaceville Estate Wellington Cup (Opn Hcp 3200m) aa field where the weights reflect the quality. Patrick Erin has not finsihed out of the money past 1600m and has won ten of twenty. Despite having to carry top weight he is the one to beat. Clarify was a late nomination for the race an dwas very good winning the Manawatu Cup two back. He never got any traction at Ellerslie and slipped when straighting last time but still run fifth. So that run has some merits. Model Aye despite being a one win mare finishs her races off very well and the two miles will suit. High Spirits won over the 3200m here in December and her run last week in the Trentham Stakes was very good for fifth. 1 - 5 - 11 - 10
Race 10 Turkington Forestry Duoro Cup (Rating 85 1600m) a small field to finish the day but first day winner Eagle Bay looks the one to beat. He was super impressive last week and can repeat. Bronsteel was good when resuming before winning well at Awpauni last time out. The step up to 1600m will not worry. Montoya Star won at this carnival last year and was good when winning at Wingatui. Glory Days is a good mare and was better when thrid at Awapuni and is more than capable of taking this out. 6 - 3 - 1- 8
