Form analysis and tips:

Race 1 Norm Bevan Memorial Maiden (Mdn Stp 4000m) a wetter track may play into the hands of My Magician. The former Awapuni Hurdles winner never got into the race at Hastings and he is capable of upsetting them in the first. Venerate is a very good jumper and has had two flat runs back. He has placed in one of his two steeple runs falling when right in contention in the other. That's How It Goes was better when runner up at Hastings and likes wet tracks. Colonia was third here in June before disappointing at Te Aroha on Sunday. -  9 - 3 - 2 - 11

Race 2 Rural Trading Post Maiden (Mdn Hdl 3000m) - Kiddo was very good in his hurdle debut here when running second behind The Shackler. He then went a very good flat race at Waverley. Zed Leppelin has been better in his last two hurdles at Hastings for fourth. Bad Boy Brown makes his hurdle debut but will be well schooled. His recent flat form has been very good. Our Gazza has had the blinkers added and this may spark him up after two fair runs to date over the fences.  1 - 2 - 3 - 6

Race 3 Anuka Smoker Wellington Hurdles (Rating 65 1200m) - The Shackler has won by a combined 46 lengths in his two hurdle races this season. He has impressed in both those wins. This will be a tougher field but he can make the next step up. Upper Cut was very good when second in the Awpauni Hurdles here and has had a flat run since. The extra 400m of this race will suit. Kipkeino was very good taking out the Hawkes Bay Hurdles  and is past winner on the flat here on a Heavy track. Sea King was brave when taking out the Awapuni Hurdles and despite having to carry 71kg will be hard to beat.  5 - 3 - 6 - 1

Race 4 Lone Star Petone Handicap (Rating 85 1200m) - Malacanto was a good winner here in May and hit the line well when fifth at Whanganui. She loves wet tracks. Thta's Funny was good when runne rup behind Malacanto before taking out the Rating 65 at Awapuni last weekend. Bannockburn won this race last year and while not in the best of form faces a drop in class now. Prosecco disappointed when right handed at Tauranga. She can bounce back here. 7 - 10 - 2 - 1

Race 5 Dixon & Dunlop Parliamentary Handicap (Opn Hcp 2200m) - Zartan was scratched last weekend and reserved for this. He was good when runne rup in the Wanganui Cup before runnign a tidy third at Hastings. Dr Watson was a good winner here in May before running a brave second here last time and will be right in the finish. Zentangle was winner over teh hrudles at Timaru before running a top race at Hastings for second. Hare Bawl was a winner here in June and has run two solid races since.  4 - 2 - 1 - 5

Race 6 Grant Plumbing Wellington Steeplechase (Opn Stp 5500m) Wise Men Say won two in a row well before running a tidy race for third in the Manawatu Steeplechase here. The wetter track will play right into his hands. Mr Mor won this race two years ago and was a good second in the Waikato Steeplechase in May. He had a set back before the Hawkes Bay Steeplechase but was still good in running fourth. He drops in weight and will strip far better. Just ishi was impressive winning the Hawkes Bay Steeplechase and the only query will be a very wet track for him to overcome. The Oysterman was impressive winning the Manawatu Steeplechase here and is a past runner up in this race.  2 - 7 - 4 - 5

Race 7 Happy 80th Kevin Gray From Hanley Formula Whyte Handicap (Opn Hcp 1600m) Our Bandit has looked good winning four of his last five. He beat a similar field here in June and is the one to beat. Duffers Creek is a very good campaigner. He won at WFA at Wanganui and then was a brave third here last time. the claim of Sarah MacNab means he will only carry 57kg. Platinum Command is far better than her form shows. She was a very easy winner of this race last year. Pencuri was very good two back and stuck on well at Awapuni last weekend. The deep track will not worry.  5 - 1 - 3 - 6

Race 8 The Green Man Pub Handicap (Rating 65 1400m) Shadow King was a good winner when resuming at Otaki over the 1400m. He was back in distance & hit the line well when seventh at Waverley. Our Daisy had been runner up in her last two and the step back in distance will nto worry as by the last this race will be more like a mile. Yin Dragon was third race last year and was better when fourth at Awpauni last weekend while Veracious is on the drop back abnd is a past course & distance winner. 4 - 6 - 1 - 2
