AWAPUNI TRACKWORK

By RON GURNEY

Atenartin and his stablemate Showshanelle did very pleasing work when galloping together at Awapuni this morning.
Fast work was held on the heavy No 1 grass (holding) or on the plough.
Atenartin and Showshanelle used the No 1 grass and were paired over 1000m in 1.7.3, coming the final 800m in 50.9, the last 600 in 38.1.
They are likely race rivals at Wanganui on Friday (r65 1200m).
Atenartin is much fitter for recent racing and has followed up an improver’s third at Awapuni last Thursday with a solid trial today.
Showshanelle’s first two runs back had merit, but was run off her feet over the shorter 1100 metres at Hastings last start. She is working well.
Dal Kilchoan worked boldly over 1200m, being timed from the 1000m in 1.8 even, the last 600 in 40.5. He is another getting fitter by the day and runs in the steeplechase on Friday.
Khalfani (mdn 2060m) gathered speed from the 1000m (1.13.3) to come the final 800m in 54.2, the last 600 in 40.6, and Rock Island Line, in at Riccarton on Saturday (r74 1400m), went 800m in 55.3 and 40.2.
On the plough, Wild Moose and Lincoln’s Kruz left 800m behind in 50.7, the last 600 in 37.3. They are coming to hand well.
Belclare, who was impressive breaking maiden status at Hastings, worked evenly over 1000m in 1.16, with the final 800m taking 58.1, the last 600 in 42.5.
Her stablemate Sir Beets, heading to Riccarton (r74 1800m), was not chasing time either, clocking 57.9 for 800m, the last 600 in 42.7.
Wanganui runner Splodge (r65 2060m) ran 1000m in 1.16, the last 600 in 43.6, while a Niagara three-year-old and a Pins two-year-old filly, both trained by Mark Oulaghan, took 1.17.9 and 44.2.
