AWAPUNI TRACKWORK

Far Site, nominated for the Winter Cup in a fortnight's time, could earn expenses at New Plymouth this Saturday after a nice final trial at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work during another quiet gallop session was held on the plough (good) or on the No 1 grass (heavy).

Far Site used the plough, and gathered speed from the 1000m to run home the final 800m in 53.1, the last 600 in 37.9.

She missed an important outing in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham last Saturday, but trainer Peter Didham is happy to use New Plymouth as an alternative lead-up race.

Lisa Allpress will ride the mare for the first time in Saturday's r74 1600m.

Sequoia Dawn, trained by Jane Davidson, and Son Of Thunder were paired over 800m in 53.2, the last 600 in 38.8, while Colorado Star and Parisian Poppy sprinted 600m in 38.2.

Hungry (by Alamosa), unplaced on debut in April, and a Sooboog gelding, both trained by Mike Breslin, sprinted 600m in 39.7. All six above are coming to hand well.

Last-start Waverley winner Obrigado, who goes to New Plymouth for the r74 2000m, ran 1000m in 1.11.3, coming the final 800m in 55.4, the last 600 in 41.2. He is simply thriving.

Saturday's race rival Floral Art covered 800m in a steady 57.1, the last 600 in 42.3, and she is building for the Winter Cup as well. Un-raced fillies Zambezi Lass and Nunsobad, both trained by Mike Breslin, took 56.9 and 41.3.

New Plymouth runner Platinum Bordeaux, who deserves a winning turn, was kept to 600m in 43.1, while Bradman and Reign It In recorded 43.3. Kapinos and a Tivaci two-year-old took 43.2.

On the No 1 grass, Waikato entrant Venato (r65 1400m) was timed 800m in 58.5, the last 600 in 42.1, while stablemate Durham Lad, who will accompany him north (r74 1200m), did little more than three-quarter pace over 800 metres.

They are trained by Matthew Eales, who has engaged top jockey Danielle Johnson to ride both horses on Saturday.
