Sequoia Dawn on the Right Track
By RON GURNEY | July 19, 2022

Waverley entrant Sequoia Dawn continued her good progress in a new campaign when she galloped in fine fashion at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work during a quiet gallop session was on the outside of the heavy course proper, where Sequoia Dawn, in the r65 1400m, worked alone over 1000m in 1.12.7, the last 600 in 41.6.

The Redwood mare boasts just one win (heavy) from 13 starts, but has been building nicely for part-owner and trainer Jane Davidson with solid track gallops and two Foxton trial placings over the last month.

Race rival Showshanelle, who ran a huge fourth at Hastings last Saturday, and Atenartin  (r65 1650m) were paired over 800m in 57.8, the last 600 in 41.1.

Canucia, another in the r65 1400m on Thursday, had Queen Of Spades for a partner over a steady 1200m in 1.37.8, coming the final 800m in 62.5, the last 600 in 43.6.

My Bibby (mdn 1650m), who has not raced since the spring, was not chasing the clock over 1200m in 1.25.9, coming the final 800m in 65.2, the last 600 in 48.4.

This Raise The Flag mare finished third in a Foxton trial (1200m) in June before winning one over 1400 metres at the same venue last Tuesday.
