AWAPUNI TRACKWORK

By RON GURNEY

Wakari gave another reminder that he means business in Saturday's Hawke's Bay Guineas after a bold semi-final trial at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on the outside of the course proper or on the plough (good).

Wakari used the course proper and had stablemate Kapinos for a partner over 1000m in 1.7.9, the last 600 in 37.2, with both horses under wraps at the finish.

Busybeingfabulous and stablemate Master Fin were paired over 1000m in 1.11.9, running home the last 600 solidly in 38.9.

Sir Nate and Belclare were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.9 even, the last 600 in 39.2, while Nod Of The Head, an easy winner on the first day at Hastings, and Wild Moose, second the same day, ended with 40.1. They both hold nominations for the Coupland's Mile at Riccarton in early November.

On the plough, Prince Turbo and Hungry took the time honours with 800m in 51.9, the last 600 in 37.6, and Hillcrest Lad ended with 38.9.

Maebhs Razeel was given a quiet round and a half before galloping 800m in 56.3, the last 600 in 38.6, while Sindacato and Putorino were sent 1000m in 1.8.9, the last 600 in 39.7.

Platinum Star worked alone over 800m in 53.2, the last 600 in 39.5, followed soon after by Silky Red Fox and Platinum Machine, who went together in 55.1 and 39.8.

Casino El Jay and un-raced four-year-old gelding Sea Monarch (by Sweynesse) ran 800m in 58.5, the last 600 in 39.9. Sea Monarch is a half-brother to Hartley (by Azamour)

Cher Ami, whose last-start failure is best forgotten, covered 1000m in 1.7.1, the last 600 in 40.6, while Town Cryer and Canucia went together in 1.9.5 and 40 even.

Sequoia Dawn, narrowly beaten at the Foxton trials last week, and Nun So Bad matched strides over 1000m in 1.10.4, the last 600 in 40.8. These two horses have been working solidly.

Their stablemates Raffle, another responsible for some fine track gallops recently, and Parisian Poppy were timed 800m in 55.2, the last 600 in 40.4.

Far Site, a bold second on the first day at Hastings, was not after time over 1000m in 1.11 even, the last 600 in 41.3, while Nest Egg and Reign It In were kept to 1.15.4 and 41.9. St Nancy ended with 42.7.
