By RON GURNEY | April 04, 2024

Cheval de Foudre and Charlotte's Way declared their fitness for Wellington on Saturday with very satisfactory final gallops at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on the plough (good) or on the synthetic track.

Cheval de Foudre (r65 2100m) used the plough and worked at speed over 1400 metres, being timed from the 1000m in 1.4.1, the last 600 in 37 seconds even.

He has been knocking on the door for several starts and should go very close again on Saturday.

Kelly Coe, who will have the blinkers removed for the Breeders' Stakes, also worked alone, covering 1000m in 1.5.3, the last 600 in 38.6.

Take no notice of the form-line because she is the dark horse of the field on Saturday.

Rocking Light, not seen since the end of January, ran 1000m in 1.8.4, the last 600 in 38.8, and Platinum Designs, who has won two of his last three, took 1.11.4 and 38.9.

Belardo Boy's younger sister Cheveux was timed 800m in 54.1, the last 600 in 38.4, and Wellington runner Havarti (r75 1200m) sprinted 600m in 38.6.

Havarti has not been since winning at Tauherenikau early last month, but did finish second in a Levin jump-out two weeks ago.

Colorado Star and Nun So Bad went together over 1000m in 1.9 even, the last 600 in 39.6, and Chikira Lass was kept to 800m in 56.3 and 40.7.

Rushin Home and Pleasing, both trained by Mike Breslin, sprinted 600m in 40.4, and they are two-year-old fillies by Russian Revolution.

Fashion Icon (3yo 1200m) sprinted 600m in 42 seconds even, and Lincoln Star (r65 2100m) was let off with 1000m in 1.12.6, the last 600 in 41 even.

Danjuro (3yo 2100m) and Miyazawa (r65 2100m) did a quiet round and a half before running home 600m in 43.7, and Danjuro will have blinkers removed for his race on Saturday.

On the synthetic track, Charlotte's Way (r75 1200m) did pleasing work over 1000m in 1.6.8, the last 600 in 38.7, following on from a bold semi-final gallop on Tuesday.

She finished second when resuming at Wanganui in February and has been kept in a fresh state ever since. Wiremu Pinn is engaged to ride her.

Bradman (open 1400m), whom Charlotte's Way worked with on Tuesday, covered 1000m in 1.9.4, the last 600 in 39.7.

He has yet to win at Trentham from 13 starts, but has chalked up two seconds, four thirds and a fourth on the course so far.

Three-year-old filly Saxon Lady (Saxon Warrior) and two-year-old gelding Sand Point (by El Roca) ran 800m in 56.1, the last 600 in 41.4, and are both unraced from the Breslin barn.

Uncle Arch and a Staphanos filly, both trained by Bryce Newman, were on level terms throughout 800m in 58.4, the last 600 in 41.8.

Chantilly Lace, in Saturday's Manawatu Classic (3yo 2100m), and Opawa Jack did a quiet round a half before running home 600m in a soft 43.8. Chantilly Lace recorded a very nice gallop on Tuesday.
