Breslin Quartet Sounds a Warning
By RON GURNEY | August 02, 2022

The Mike Breslin-trained quartet of Cholula, Showbastian Coe, Sea Monarch and Nun So Bad all worked in good style at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was wide out on the heavy course proper, where times were generally better during the early stages of the gallop session.

Cholula and unraced four-year-old gelding Showbastian Coe (by Showcasing) were paired over 1000m in 1.15.2, coming the final 800m in 51.3, the last 600 in 39.6.

Cholula is mixing her form, but has had her excuses, while Showbastian Coe has won two Levin jump-outs over the past few months, and continues to gallop solidly.

Sea Monarch, a big improver from a resuming run at Hastings, and Nun So Bad did similar work over 1000m in 1.16.3, with the final 800m taking 53.3, the last 600 in 39.1. Nun So Bad almost snatched a win last start.

Miss Belle, second at the Levin jump-outs again last week, and Canucia covered 1000m in 1.14.5, coming the final 800m in 54.2, the last 600 in 39.4. Miss Belle was entered for Hawera on Sunday.

Riccarton entry Belardo Boy (r75 1400m) worked alone over 1000m in 1.16.2, running home his final 800m in 54.4, the last 600 in 39.3, and Glide Queen was timed 800m in 54.5 and 39.6.

Corinne, third when resuming at Hastings, and Hawera runner Queen Of Spades (r65 f&m 1600m), were on terms from the 1000m in 1.11.9, the last 600 in 39.5, while Jesko (mdn 2100m) and McKhan (mdn 1600m), both trained by Shaun Fannin, clocked 1.11.1 and 40.9.

Rock Island Line, in at Riccarton (r75 1400m), worked alone over 1000m in 1.16.4, coming the final 800m in 55.3, the last 600 in 40.2, while Blackcomb and Hungry went together in 1.17.2 and 54.7, the last 600 in 40.4.

Make Time, whose form has improved, completed 1000m in 1.15.2, with the final 800m taking 55.8, the last 600 in 41.9. He goes to Riccarton for the r65 1200m.

Unraced Dalghar three-year-old Papa Surf and a Zed maiden, both with Mike Breslin, ran 800m in 55.9, the last 600 in 41.2, while Hawera entries Showshanelle (r65 1400m) and Atenartin (r65 1600m) recorded 58.5 and 41.8.

West Coast and Des De Jeu, off to Riccarton, galloped 1200m twice, running 1.25.8, the final 800m in 58.1 and last 600 in 42.7. On the second occasion, they clocked 1.19.8 and 56.1, the last 600 in 41 even.

Dal Kilchoan and Tweedledee, two more from the stable of Mark Oulaghan heading south this week, did similar work. Their first 1200m took 1.33.2 and 58.4, the last 600 in 42.2, followed by 1.27.7, 64.1 and 46.7.

Winter Cup prospect Kusuda and stablemate Far Site were timed 1000m in 1.15.8, the last 600 easing down in 43.1, while Sapporo and a Showcasing gelding did 800m in 61.3 and 43.3.

Inmyshadow and My Bibby, both coming to hand well, were paired over 1000m, the last 600 in 43.5. Inmyshadow won a Levin jump-out last Tuesday, and My Bibby won a Foxton trial the week before.

Canbiteabit had trainer Marieke Simons aboard over 1000m in 1.30.6, the last 600 in 44.1, and Durham Lad ended a quiet 800m with 600 in 45 seconds even.
