Lisa Latta Maidens Have More To Offer
By RON GURNEY | March 19, 2024

Coney Island and Redana, maidens trained by Lisa Latta, were in fine form at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on the plough (good) or on the synthetic track, with Levin jump-outs scheduled for later in the day.

Coney Island and Redana used the plough and were paired over 1000m in 1.4.1, the last 600 in 36.9.

Both horses do not have a good form-line on paper, but are winning prospects at Tauherenikau on Sunday.

Meglio Di Falcrest and Kick Start did a quiet round before galloping 1000m together in 1.7.1, the last 600 in 36.7. Kick Start looks close to winning form again.

Their stablemates Sharada and Faustian Bargain did similar work and covered 1000m in 1.14.8, sprinting home the last 600 in 36.4.

Sunday runners Hot Dip and Hungry were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.5.6, the last 600 in 37.7, and Rev It Up Rusty went alone in 1.8.6 and 37.3.

Last-start maiden winner Miyazawa (Taranaki) and Ruffhouse Rosie (Sunday) left 1000m behind in 1.8.9, the last 600 in 38.6, while Showbastian Coe (Sunday) and Papa Surf (Tauranga) took 1.10 even and 38.4.

Platinum Designs and Satsuki, two more in on Sunday, ended with 600m in 38 seconds even, and last-start maiden winner Jestin Case was kept to 42.7. French Doll and Nun So Bad clocked 43.9.

On the synthetic track, Town Cryer and Reign It In worked boldly over 1000m in 1.6.3, the last 600 in 37.2.

Town Cryer, second in the Rangitoto Classic (1500m) last start, heads back to Ellerslie on Saturday week for the Group 1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (1600m).

Zerne (by Redwood), unplaced on debut a few weeks ago, ran 1000m in 1.10.3, the last 600 in 39.7. He races on Sunday.
