Meglio Di Falcrest Out To Make Amends
By RON GURNEY | February 06, 2024

Meglio Di Falcrest looks set for an overdue win at Wanganui on Friday after a very satisfactory trial at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on the plough (good) or on the synthetic track, with a good number of horses heading to Wanganui.

Meglio Di Falcrest used the plough and had trainer Ashley Meadows aboard over a quiet round before galloping 1000m in 1.3 even, the last 600 in 35.8.

The mare blotted her copybook somewhat in the Concorde Handicap at Ellerslie last start, but she was in solid form prior to that trip, including a nose defeat at Hastings.

Chikira Lass, who is knocking on the door, did strong work as well and left 1000m behind in 1.5.6, the last 600 in 35.4. Her stablemate Prioress ended with 600m in 35.5.

Media Miss was timed 1000m in a nice 1.4.4, the last 600 in 36.9, while Trustworthy and Richter went together in 1.5.7 and 36.9.

Share Power and Cry Baby (by Alamosa) were paired over 1000m in 1.12.5, the last 600 in 36.4, followed straight after by Dynamo Express and a Mongolian Khan maiden with 800m in  57.9 and 38.7.

Lurid did two quiet rounds with a 600m sprint at the end of each one in 39.9 and 38.7 respectively. This has been a regular regime.

Love Tania and unraced three-year-old First Edition (by Wrote) were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.7.5, the last 600 in 39 even. First Edition is set to debut on Friday.

Sailor Jack was given a round to warm up before galloping 1000m in 1.8.8, the last 600 in  39.8, while Belle's Echo and Get Funky went together in 1.9.4 and 39.6.

Benefactor gathered speed from the 1000m (1.11.3) to finish with 600 in 40.9, while Poppy's Girl and a Sweet Orange filly, both trained by the Fannin/Schofer partnership, took 1.13.1 and 40.2.

Lady Performer from the Lydia Pickford barn ran 800m in 56.2, the last 600 in 40.8, and stablemate Textbook posted 57.2 and 41 even. Surprise Me, another Pickford runner, and an Ardrossan filly sprinted 600m in 41.4.

On the synthetic track, Waitui Rose and unraced Shamexpress four-year-old The Scunner ran 1000m in 1.8.3, the last 600 in 38.7. Waitui Rose is working superbly. The Scunner has won at the jump-outs and been second at the trials in preparation for his debut on Friday.

Unraced Redwood gelding Zerne, trained by Matthew Eales, ran 800m in 52.7, the last 600 in 39.4, and his stablemate Kawatiri recorded 55.4 and 40.5.
