Newman Mares Have Tongues Wagging

Bulls visitors Sugah Sweet and Bold Belle, both trained by Bryce Newman, were the star performers by far during a busy gallop session at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on the synthetic track or on the plough (good).

Sugah Sweet and Bold Belle used the synthetic track and were paired over 1000m in a very smart 60.2, coming the final 800m in 46 seconds even, the last 600 in 34.8. They could not have been more impressive.

Sugah Sweet, who disappointed in the Rangitoto Classic (1500m) last start, races next in the Manawatu Breeders' Stakes (2100m) at Trentham on Saturday week.

Town Cryer, in Saturday's NZ Breeders' Stakes at Ellerslie, had Tavita Miss for a partner and worked right-handed over 1000m 1.16.4, the last 600 in 36.1. Town Cryer was a game second in the Rangitoto Classic.

Their stablemates Charlotte's Way and Vitaci went together over 800m in 50.3, the last 600 in 37.8, and Zackery, who has won his last two in succession, did 1000m in 1.8.1 and 39.6.

Phats and a Belardo two-year-old gelding, both trained by Chrissy Bambry, ran 1000m in 1.10.9, the last 600 in 40 even.

Their stablemates Chantilly Lace and Bella Corno did similar work with 1.11.5 and 40.5, while Opawa Jack and an Ocean Park two-year-old from the same barn sprinted 600m in 40.5.

Lincoln Falls left 1000m behind in 1.16.5, the last 600 in 40.1, and Bradman was kept to 800m in 54.8, the last 600 in 40.4.

La Bella Grande was timed 1000m in 1.11, the last 600 in 41.1, while unraced two-year-olds Pleasing and Rushin Home sprinted 600m in 41.5. They are fillies by Russian Revolution.

Great Escape and Nadheema went a quiet 800m in 55.3 and 42.7.

On the plough, Miss Rosie, Dawn Shadow and Castashadow, all trained by Mark Oulaghan, ran a smart 1000m in 1.1.6, the last 600 in 36.4.

Lady Performer had senior jockey Leah Hemi aboard over 800m in 50.5, the last 600 in 36.8, while Sir Mikki and Platinum Attack went together in 52.4 and 37.9.

Last year's Grand National winners West Coast and Berry The Cash were paired over an eye-catching 1000m in 1.3.1, the last 600 in 37.7. They are working in great style.

Super Flash and Dal Kilchoan clocked 1.3.7 for 1000m, the last 600 in 37.9, and their stablemate Pinkerton took 1.6.8 and 37.3.

Donnybrook and Nun So Bad were on terms over 800m in 55.3, the last 600 in 37.9, while Super Spirit and Kentucky Boy went 1000m in 1.3.5 and 38.1.

The Scunner and Kick Start covered 1000m in 1.7.6, the last 600 in 38.9, and Belardo Boy's sister Cheveux went alone in 1.11.6 and 38.1.

Ima Brazen One, who won a Levin jump-out last week, and Pepeha matched strides over 1000m in 1.7.1, the last 600 in 39.4, and Lincoln Towers took 1.13.6 and 39.3.

Textbook ran 1000m in 1.8.5, the last 600 in 40 even, while Danjuro and Ruffhouse Rosie went together in 1.9.8 and 40.7. Unraced three-year-old filly Saxon Lady and an El Roca gelding did 800m in 55.5 and 40.7.

Surprize Me worked alone over 1000m in 1.12.1, the last 600 in 41.5, and Lurid posted 1.14.4 and 41.2. His stablemate Jestin Case took 1.14.5 and 41.7.

Gum Basher and Retro Boy ended with 41.9, and Moon Money clocked 42.1, Fashion Icon 45.3 and Smokin Mo 45.9.
