Hunterville trainer Lydia Pickford brought seven horses to gallop at Awapuni this morning, and went away with pleasing results.

Fast work during a very light session was on the new synthetic track or on the course proper (soft-6).

Crackerjack and See The Lion, maidens trained by Pickford, took the time honours on the synthetic with 1000m in 1.4.5, the last 600 in 37.3. Crackerjack has been going well at the trials and at the jump-outs.

Surprize Me, close to winning form again, and a Wrote gelding were paired over 1000m in 1.7.4, the last 600 in 37.1.

Saturday's Taranaki entrant Tumbleweed (r75 1000m) had senior rider Leah Hemi aboard over the same distance in 1.8.2 and 38.9.

My Tarnz Girl and unraced three-year-old Snipsnap (by Vadamos), two more from the Pickford barn, were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.9.5, the last 600 in 39.7.

Odysseus, in at Waverley on Sunday (open hurdle), had trainer Stephen Beatson in the saddle over a quiet round before speeding up on the second circuit to run 1000m in 1.8.1, the last 600 in 40 seconds even.

Beatson did similar work on unraced five-year-old mare La'Jacinda (by Tandarra Crown), covering the final 800m in 56.3, the last 600 in 40.5. She debuts in the maiden highweight (1400m).

Kapinos, who has not raced since the autumn, sprinted 600m in 42.3.

On the course proper, Waverley entrant Sequoia Dawn (r65 hwt 1400m), who needed her resuming run at Hawera, ran 1000m in 1.16.1, the last 600 in 41 even, and Timberlake sprinted 600m in 41.1.
