Saturday Race Rivals Share The Honours
By RON GURNEY | April 25, 2024

Wanganui race rivals Lincoln's Kruz and Bold Belle put their hand up to be counted with bold gallops on separate tracks at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on the plough (good) or on the synthetic track.

Lincoln's Kruz (r85 1200m) used the plough and worked alone over a very smart 800m in 48.4, the last 600 in 35.4. He is struggling to find some good previous form, but his trackwork is faultless.

His stablemate Chikira Lass (r75 2040m) is in the same boat, but her track gallops are first-class as well. She covered 1000m in 60.8, the last 600 in 36.5. Both horses will be ridden by northern apprentice Ace Lawson-Carroll (a2).

Cheveux, another from the Lisa Latta barn, was timed 800m in 52.4, the last 600 in 36.8, while her stablemates Belle's Echo (r75 1200m) and Love Tania went together in 50.7 and 38.7. Lawson-Carroll rides Belle's Echo as well.

Last-start winner Papa Surf (r75 1200m) and unraced two-year-old filly Pleasing (by Russian Revolution) ran 800m in 55.9, the last 600 in 38.8.

Papa Surf will be ridden by Awapuni apprentice Toni Davies (a3), and Pleasing was a winner at the Levin jump-outs (850m) last week.

Lurid (r65 mile No 2) did two quiet rounds with a 600m sprint at the end of each one in 40.8 and 38.3 respectively, while stablemate and race rival Perfect Test did nice work over 1000m in 1.8.2, the last 600 in 39.3.

Danjuro (r65 mile No.2) and Fashion Icon (3yo 1340m) gathered speed from the 1000m (1.12.7) to finish with 600 in 39 seconds even.

Lantern Way (3yo 1340m) worked alone and did two quiet rounds with a 600m at the end of each one in 41.6 and 41.8 respectively.

The Scunner (r65 mile No 1) was given an easy 1000m in 1.15.5, the last 600 in 42.6, and Prioress (r75 1200m) was kept to 1.17.2 and 45.1.

On the synthetic track, Bold Belle (r85 1200m), trained by Bryce Newman, gathered speed from the 1000m (1.10.6) to come her last 600 in 36.9.

She followed up two Foxton trial seconds with a resuming fourth at Otaki two weeks ago and looks a big improver.

Havarti (r75 1200m) ran an even 800m in 53.9, the last 600 in 39.4, and Bradman did similar work, covering 1000m in 1.11.8 and 39.8.

Bradman heads to Te Rapa on Saturday for the open 1400m and will be ridden by northern apprentice Ngakau Hailey (a3).
