Splodge Ready To Bounce Back
By RON GURNEY | September 01, 2022

Splodge sounded a fair warning about his Wanganui chances when he galloped in solid fashion at Awapuni this morning.

The majority of fast work was held on the synthetic track, with one gallop recorded on the course proper (soft).

Splodge used the synthetic track and worked alone over 1000m in 1.8.9, coming the final 800m in 54.3, the last 600 in 38.9.

The Roc De Cambes gelding is fresh from last month's Grand National meeting, where he ran two fair races without paying a dividend.

He tackles Saturday's r75 1600m, and represents good each value. Two previous starts at Wanganui have yielded two thirds.

Text Book, an unraced gelding by Wrote trained by Lydia Pickford, ran a nice 800m in 53.7, the last 600 in 38.2.

Chikira Lass, who has not raced since late May, was timed 800m in 55.8, the last 600 in 39.5. She has raced well fresh in the past.

Red Road (by Per Incanto) and Water Lillies (by Tivaci), both trained by Chrissy Bambry, took 56.4 and 39.1 for 800m, and Ruby Seeker (by Vadamos), from the same stable, sprinted 600m in 41.5.

Kapinos gathered speed from the 800m to run the last 600 in 42 even. In similar work, Albufeira and Pepeha clocked 42.8, with Cholula, in at Wanganui (r65 2040m), and unraced Papa Surf (by Dalghar) taking 43.3.

A Per Incanto filly and a Gorky Park gelding, both trained by Lydia Pickford, sprinted 600m in 43.7, while Kingfisher Lad and a Turn Me Loose filly (Chrissy Bambry) posted 44.1.

Fabian Hawk, a big improver for the maiden mile at Wanganui, and stablemate Mazzini were kept to an easy 600m in 45.1.

On the course proper, Wanganui hopefuls Timberlake (open 2040m) and Boasting (Guineas) were paired over 1000m in 1.11, coming the final 800m in 55.3, the last 600 in 40.1.

Boasting (by Sacred Falls) finished second on debut at Woodville three weeks ago, and rates a chance on Saturday despite the so-called step in class.
