Surprize Me waiting for weather to break
By RON GURNEY | May 05, 2022

Hunterville visitor Surprize Me worked in pleasing fashion at Awapuni this morning, and is a horse to follow when the tracks begin to ease.

Fast work was held on the course proper (good) or on the plough (good). With races at Otaki on Friday and no Central Districts meeting over the weekend, the numbers galloping were light.

Surprize Me used the course proper and had trainer Lydia Pickford aboard over 1000m in 1.12.2, the last 600 in 38.6.

The Reliable Man four-year-old mare was pretty honest during her last campaign, chalking up two wins, a second, three thirds and two fourths from 12 starts.

At her last appearance, she finished seventh of 13 in the (Listed) Wairarapa Breeders' Stakes (1600m) in February, four lengths from the winner, Sinarahma.

Former northerner Make Time (by Makfi), who had two starts for Lisa Latta late last year, covered 1000m, but could only be timed his last 600, which took 39.1.

Night Roca, second at the Foxton trials three weeks ago, was not chasing the clock over 1000m, the last 600 in 40.1.

On the plough, Dedoje and a Redwood-Savadashian three-year-old gelding ran 800m, the last 600 in 39.8, while their stablemates Sea Monarch and un-raced two-year-old filly Sanperion (by Telperion) clocked 41.5.
