Dealornodeal Ready To Play The Game
By RON GURNEY | April 18, 2024

Dealornodeal promised a much-improved effort at Hawera on Sunday after a strong final gallop at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work during a light session was on the plough (good) or on the synthetic track.

Dealornodeal used the plough and had stablemate Lady Performer alongside over 800m in 50.7, the last 600 in 36.6.

The Contributer gelding blotted the copybook on a heavy track at Otaki last Saturday and trainer Lydia Pickford will be looking for better conditions at Hawera (mdn 2100m).

Sunday's race is for amateur riders, and Dealornodeal will have the services of Palmerston North's Caitlin Rennie.

Papa Surf, who has not raced since winning at Tauranga four weeks ago, and stablemate Hungry were paired over 1000m in 1.6.5, coming the final 800m in 48.5, the last 600 in 37.2.

Deadly Pony, not seen since New Year, did a quiet round and a half before sprinting home 600m in 41.9, and Surprize Me was kept to a very quiet 1000m, the last 600 in 44.2.

On the synthetic track, two-year-old filly Velton, trained by Bryce Newman, covered 800m in 53.2, the last 600 in 37.4, and she continues to work solidly.

Her stablemate Uncle Arch and Roydon Bergerson-trained Nadheema left 1000m behind in 1.9.5, the last 600 in 39.2.

Hawera entrant Charlotte's Way (r75 1400m), to be ridden by northern apprentice Triston Moodley (a3), was not seeking time over 1000m in 1.17 even, the last 600 in 43.7.

She has won twice over Sunday's distance, each time on the synthetic track at Awapuni last year, and despite a quiet workout this morning, her run at Trentham last start is best forgotten.

An Alamosa filly trained by Mike Breslin sprinted 600m in 42.3.
