Jeff Lynds-Trained Pair Work Impressively
By RON GURNEY | January 23, 2024
Princessa Gold and her maiden stablemate Maggie McMuffin galloped together in superb fashion at Awapuni this morning.
Fast work was held on the plough (good) or on the synthetic track.
Princessa Gold and Maggie McMuffin used the plough and began from the 1000m, with Magic McMuffin a few lengths behind. They finished together in 1.2.2, the last 600 in 35.3.
Princessa Gold is ready to pay a dividend after wide draws did no favours in her last two starts. Maggie McMuffin looks on song for a maiden win at Hastings on Thursday (mdn 1200m) after some tough runs lately as well.
He's A Doozy, going well after being freshened up, and Lincoln Star were paired over 1000m in 1.4.1, the last 600 in 37.2.
He's A Doozy is a leading prospect at Trentham on Saturday (open mile), while Lincoln Star will have side winkers replaced by blinkers at Hastings on Thursday (r75 2200m).
Cheval De Foudre, knocking on the door for another victory, worked alone over 1000m in 1.4.2, the last 600 in 37.7, and Donnybrook recorded 1.4.3 and 37.5. They are entered for Trentham on Saturday.
Love Janie, in at Hastings (mdn mile), and Redana (Trentham) were on terms throughout 1000m in 1.7.1, the last 600 in 37.7, while Rocking Light (Trentham), unplaced on debut three weeks ago, took 1.7.3 and 38.8.
Colorado Star and Crouch were paired over 800m in 51 seconds even, the last 600 in 37.8, while Lurid (Trentham) did two quiet rounds, with a 600m sprint at the end of each one in 37.7 and 39.3 respectively.
Hungry and Call A Friend, both in on Saturday, were timed 1000m in 1.5.4, the last 600 in 38.6, and unraced Quorum mare Our Matilda, trained by Jeff Lynds, ran 800m in 52.7, the last 600 in 38.3.
Final Chapter, off to Hastings (mdn 2100m), ended with 600m in 38.4, and he ran a much improved race for fourth at Tauherenikau.
Jack Morrison (mdn mile), unplaced on debut, gathered speed from the 1000m to run 800m in 55.8, the last 600 in 41.3. He should go a better race on Thursday.
Giannis was kept to 1000m in 1.12.5, the last 600 in 42.5, and stablemate Bellucci posted 1.14.6 and 42.1. They are good chances at Trentham.
On the synthetic track, nothing worked better than Pradasphere, who skipped over 800m in 47.3, the last 600 in 35.5.
Her form is mixed, and trainer Lucy Tanner has decided to remove the blinkers for Thursday's race at Hastings (mdn 1400m).
Sailor Jack, who followed up a Foxton trial win with a second at Tauherenikau over New Year, came in from the 1000m in 1.3.7, the last 600 in 36.1. He is working well, and much fitter for the r65 2100m on Saturday.
Bradman and Tivaci Princess matched strides over 800m in 48.1, the last 600 in 36.2, and Lincoln Falls (r65 mile) did 1000m in 1.9.4 and 37.1.
Sizzle, who races next on Waitangi Day, and Asahi left 800m behind in 51.8, the last 600 in 38.7, and Hasbulla, in on Thursday (mdn 1400m), went 1000m in 1.9.9 and 39.5. The step up to 1400m could make a big difference.
Popsagoosey, freshened since racing early last month, was not seeking a fast time over 1000m in 1.12.9, the last 600 in 41.4.
The blinkers are going on him for the r60 1200m on Thursday and he deserves respect in the small field.
