With no Central Districts meeting until next Sunday, fast work at Awapuni was at a minimum on Tuesday morning.
Fog prevented the timing of a few gallops, and those horses entered for the CJC Winter Cup meeting on Saturday departed for Christchurch before daylight.
There were three gallops this morning on the synthetic track and one on the plough, but none of them were chasing the clock.
On the synthetic track, much attention centred on the gallop of top mare Town Cryer, who is shaping up for spring racing. She covered 800m in 54.5, the last 600 in 40.1 and was not asked to do any better.
Last-start Hawera winner Crouch was kept to 800m in 58.7, the last 600 in 42.1, and Barzetti gathered speed from the 800m to finish with 600 in a quiet 44.9.
On the plough, Fourty Eight and unraced filly Passenger, both trained by the Fannin-Schofer partnership, ran 1000m in 1.6.3, the last 600 in 39.1.
Passenger (by Tarzino) won over 1200 metres at the Foxton trials last Friday, and shows a lot of promise. He was entered for Hawera on Sunday.
